Martial arts has always been a part of the centre’s history and Keith Nicholas has maintained the continuity of this legacy. As a 12 year old he began his journey with judo at the centre and now is a highly respected teacher of Aikido and relating arts. Over the years the martial arts at the club have included judo, aikido, jujitsu, kendo, kicking-boxing, iaido and karate.

Today we are able to offer Aikido sessions on Sunday evenings commencing at 6.00 pm and ending at 9.00pm. Aikido is a soft, non-competitive art and is suitable for people of all ages. It is the ideal art to promote self-confidence and awareness in a friendly, warm and traditional atmosphere yet allowing individuals to explore their inner self at a pace that suits them. It is seen as a very philosophical and spiritual art and attracts people from all walks of life. Aikido is also the perfect art for learning self-protection without the need for extensive training, but for most it has become a way of life. (However, most) Many people are attracted to the beautiful and graceful circular movements while acknowledging the subtle dynamic inner power that is generated.

Over the years Seishin Ryu Budo (Spiritual School of Martial Ways), has participated in many fund-raising and charity events and has gained the respect from the community. Keith has also taught in many local schools and colleges as well as giving courses for other organisations and is also involved with a number of community projects.

Seishin Ryu is fully insured with all qualified (including CRB checks) teaches affiliated to NAKMAS which also promote the welfare of young people.
